“Duel of the Aces” printing in Ellery Queen’s November/December issue

I’ve been sitting on this one for a few months – but since it’s now public on their website, I’m really excited to report that my short story, “Duel of the Aces” will be featured in Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine in the November/December issue!

Ellery Queen is the WORLD’S LEADING mystery magazine. It has been cited as “the finest periodical of its kind” by The Readers’ Encyclopedia of American Literature and as “the best mystery magazine in the world, bar none” by Stephen King.

And I’m really proud of “Duel of the Aces,” a really fun noir piece set in the 1960s about a game of pool with a whole lot more riding on the outcome than the final score.

The issue drops on October 20.

Lunch Break available for 0.99!

I’m going to release short stories that I’ve published in other places, as the rights revert back to me. Nothing heavy – I’m just putting out the fun ones, that will hopefully take your mind off of things for an hour or so. The first one is Lunch Break, which first ran in “Snowbound: Best New England Crime Stories.” You can get a digital copy now, for 99 cents on Amazon.
More of these are coming. Some that have been published – and if you’re all good and keep social distancing, maybe a few that nobody has ever seen before…

“Priceless” Selected as a “Distinguished Mystery Story of 2018” by the Best American Mystery Stories Anthology!

For more than 20 years, the “Best American Mystery Stories” anthology combs through thousands of published works from writers in the US and Canada, and identifies a list of about fifty stories that earn the “Distinguished story” title. They read more than 3,000 stories published in 2018, and selected Travis’s “Priceless” as one of their fifty distinguished stories of the year – alongside works from distinguished crime and mystery writers like Jeffrey Deaver, Michael Koryta and Brian Panowich.

Read “Priceless” in Landfall: Best New England Crime Stories 2018

This is the second year in a row that Level Best Books has chosen one of Travis’s stories for their “Best New England Crime Stories” anthology, and it’s the second story in a row about Shawn MacIntosh – a part-time fixer from Portland who is always finding his way into trouble by trying to solve problems for his friends and family. “Priceless” is a fun little caper about an underground casino, a live grenade and a fierce case of sibling rivalry.

Crime Lineup – Public Reading Jan. 24

I’m excited for my first public reading with the super talented Joe Souza and Tim Queeney on January 24 at Longfellow Books, highlighting our winning stories in “Landfall: Best New England Crime Stories 2018.”

I’ll be reading selections from my short story, “Priceless.”  This is the second year in a row that Level Best Books has chosen one of my stories for the anthology, and it’s the second story about Shawn MacIntosh – a part-time fixer from Portland who is always finding his way into trouble by trying to solve problems for his friends and family. Priceless is a fun little caper about an underground casino, a live grenade and a fierce case of sibling rivalry.

I’ll be reading alongside Joe Souza and Tim Queeney, two accomplished local writers whose stories in Landfall were both fantastic. Hope to see you there!
